Neo Technology asked us to take the Neo 4j logo and create an icon for use across multiple platforms. The rounded rectangle gives the icon some heft to allow it to hold up at smaller sizes. The circles from the logo break the boundaries of the rectangle to give the icon a more unique silhouette.
Chapman and Cutler LLP charged the Iconfactory with designing the application icon for their internal Document Management System (DMS), which had both Mac desktop and iOS components. Several metaphors were explored until we settled on the idea of folded documents that formed the check-in and check-out marks of the software’s version control system. The result […]
Vellum helps users create eBooks for iBooks, Kindle and Nook. 180g needed a Mac app icon for Vellum that showed elegance and simplicity while also focusing on text and writing. They came to us with a concept already in mind to use an origami paper flower with snippets of famous literature hinted at on the folded petals. It was a challenge […]
In partnering with IdeaSwarm to create the all-new AppViz 3, we wanted to not only embrace and extend the existing functionality from version 2 but also design navigation and structure to make the app as easy to use as possible. The kinds of financial information that AppViz presents the user with is highly complex and […]
Shown above are web, Android and iOS versions of the icon. Primate Labs wanted us to take their existing Mac OS X-style icon for Geekbench and create a mobile version that could work universally across iOS6, iOS 7, and the Android and Blackberry platforms. We needed to discard the very three dimensional, top-down OS X approach, but keep […]
Screens was inspired by iOS 7 to take a fresh look at their visual design for the 3rd version of Edovia’s iOS and Mac apps. We wanted an icon that could translate from the very simple and clean iOS version to the larger and more detailed OS X version of the app. Since the focus […]
The client requested a concept for the Typesetter application that would communicate iBook creation through the use of rich textures and iconic metaphors. Combining the heavy, metallic hot type slug with a classic hard-bound book sets Typesetter apart on the Mac OS X Dock and maximizes the use of the square canvas.
Showing the relationship to Messages and Chat was an important element to the design but we also wanted to incorporate science and the idea that Chatology is an extension of the chat experience. Most of the concepts revolved around science and the history of chat. The experiment beaker ended up feeling really strong to everyone […]
PushPopcorn came to us with a basic concept of what they wanted their application icon to represent. After an initial sketch round with various layout options, we landed on one they really liked. From there materials and colors were explored until a combination was settled on that conveyed a modern and professional feel to the […]
