The Articles icon that we created a few years ago (see below) has been immensely well-recieved and served the app well but it was time for a refresh with the approach of iOS 7 and the maturity of the app over time. The original icon was heavily illustrated with a somewhat antique metaphor of a catalog system which didn’t relate to all user or the more simple and straightforward approach of the iOS 7 icon style. So we took a step back and tried some new directions, which ended with an origami inspired letterform that made a more memorable logo for the app icon and could also be flexible with recoloring for different versions of the app. Find out more about Articles for iOS 7.
The Iconfactory created the beautiful application icon and UI for Sophiestication’s Wikipedia-based app, Articles, which is a 2010 Apple Design Award winner. The app icon evokes memories of old fashioned card catalogs hidden away in the library. The illustration was created in multiple sizes up to 4000×4000 for print and is used in advertising and app store banners. The UI for Articles on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad follows the concept behind the app, providing a quiet, distraction-free environment in which to read and discover Wikipedia articles.
